About Tombo
The world is full of regenerative activity. Most of it is invisible. Tombo is a map and a feed for discovering and sharing the places, practices, and people already doing this work.
What is Tombo?
Tombo is a map and a forum — two views on the same data. The map shows where regenerative initiatives are taking root. The commons is a feed where people share what's happening: observations, events, questions, and updates from the places they care about. The name comes from the dragonfly (tonbo in Japanese). Dragonflies are indicators of ecosystem health. Sensitive to water quality and habitat, they thrive where living systems are intact and return where degraded ones are recovering. In Japan, a grassroots movement spanning decades has seen schools across the country build dragonfly ponds — small wetlands that act as stepping stones for ecological networks in urban areas. Tombo maps that same kind of work — wherever it's happening.
Wings
Every post and place on Tombo belongs to one or more wings — categories that span the regenerative spectrum: rewilding, plants, fungi, algae, water, growing, food, making, energy, circular flows, building, community, and learning. Wings help you find the things you care about without locking content into rigid categories.
Community
Tombo is built by the people doing the work. Anyone can add a place to the map, post an update, or join the conversation. Places can be claimed by their stewards, who maintain the profile. We're starting small and growing carefully.
